Hoodia gordonii is a cactus-like succulent plant, native to the Kalahari Desert in Southern Africa. nomadic Bushmen, (who call it Xhoba) ate the stem of the Hoodia plant to prevent hunger during long hunting trips in the sparsely vegetated areas. It has been studied for its glucose-like ability to send signals to the brain indicating satiety. The steroidal glycoside that has been called "p57", the active ingredient, makes you feel full even though you have not eaten. It has become widely recognized for its effectiveness, although it is believed that 80% of products fake the use of hoodia. 4 Organics uses a high-grade 30:1 extract to ensure efficacy.

Garcinia Cambogia has been found to promote fat oxidation, enhance serotonin release and its availability in brain, aid in normalization of lipid profiles and reduction of serum leptin levels in overweight individuals, and promote thermogenesis for weight loss. It works by blocking lipogenesis or conversion of starches and sugars into fat that is stored and increases our weight. The glucose or its stored form glycogen is promoted. As excess of glucose is spared from conversion to fat, this excess glucose is mediated by gluconeogenesis pathway to form glycogen. Glycogen signals the brain satiety center that sufficient food has been taken. So glycogen production with Garcoinia further suppresses appetite.
